BcalcOS has its own software repository.
BcalcOS is built on Devuan, so most of the software in a BcalcOS installation comes from the Devuan repositories. We also use three additional repositories: XLibre, Brave Origin, and the BcalcOS repo.
What is in the BcalcOS repository?
The repository contains BcalcOS-specific packages, including:
- BcalcOS Base — core BcalcOS configuration, branding, and supporting files.
- BcalcOS applications — software developed for BcalcOS, such as the custom installer, the BcalcOS Welcome Center, and Quail Reminder.
- BcalcOS maintenance tools — scripts such as
apt-updates-notifyandweekly-fstrim. - Additional 3rd party apps — selected software packaged by BcalcOS when not available through the Devuan repositories.
How does it work?
When you run updates, APT checks the configured software repositories and determines whether newer versions of installed packages are available.
Why maintain a BcalcOS repository?
The BcalcOS repository gives the project a place to maintain its own software and supporting components along with some selected 3rd party applications while continuing to rely on Devuan for the majority of the packages.
