The BcalcOS installation process is designed to be straightforward.
The installer guides you through each step and asks you to provide the following information:
- Installation disk select the physical disk (which will be erased!) on which BcalcOS will be installed
- Timezone select your timezone.
- Hostname provide a hostname for the computer, or accept the default
- Username choose the username for your primary user account
- Login password set the password used to log in to the system
- Home encryption choose whether you want your
/homepartition to be encrypted.
Home Encryption
If home encryption is enabled, you will be asked to enter a separate encryption password during installation.
This password is different from your login password. It is used to unlock the encrypted /home partition during the boot process.
The encryption password and login password serve different purposes and should not be considered interchangeable.
Swap Encryption
The swap partition is encrypted automatically, regardless of whether home encryption is selected. Swap encryption does not require a password as BcalcOS generates a new random encryption key during each boot.
Shutdown
When complete, the installer will prompt you to shutdown the computer and remove the USB stick.
